Classic Newfoundland Music Turned Lo-Fi By ShieldEater

As the newest member of the team here to help bring more content to the blog I set out to find a story for our music section and as my luck may have it, I came across this fantastic album by St. John’s artist ShieldEater. This nearly 40 minute musical journey was unexpected but very much welcomed on this cool winter morning.

This album was just recently released on December 15th, 2022 and I’ve just this morning finished a full listen through with my coffee. There’s not much information about the artist out there, however their Bandcamp profile has a few other songs and albums unrelated to this lo-fi mix.

The Classics Reimagined

You’ll surely recognize the songs as you listen along and the tracklist features the folowing:

The Kelligrews Soiree – Johnny Burke
She’s Like the Swallow – Edward Chapman
Mussels in the Corner – Harry Hibbs
Squid-Jiggin’ Ground – Hank Snow
Ode to Newfoundland – Hubert Parry
Little Beggarman – Little John Cameron
Newfoundland Spring – (who know’s this one?)
Lukey’s Boat – Great Big Sea
Cod Liver Oil – Great Big Sea
The Ryans and the Pittmans – Great Big Sea

I found the entire album on Bandcap as well for those that want to use and save it there. This is quite the unique project and I haven’t ever come across something like it. Enjoy the album, share the links with friends and let us know what you think of these lo-fi remixes.
