Newfoundland Pony Society Needs Volunteers

I’ve been following the Newfoundland Pony Society for quite some time and love the work they do. They have had quite the year including a devastating barn fire that seems to have been set deliberately. With summer coming up there is quite a bit of work to be completed and they are calling for volunteers to help with the workload.

The Newfoundland Pony is an important heritage breed which developed in Newfoundland and Labrador over the centuries. When settlers arrived from the British Isles, they brought their  hardworking ponies with them, including Exmoor, Dartmoor, New Forest and other ponies. The pony developed its own unique characteristics through natural selection and adaptation, surviving harsh winters and interbreeding on the common lands surrounding communities – creating a new breed.

They are a small group that does not have any staff, but they already do so much for these incredibles animals. The Newfoundland Pony Society does not receive any provincial government funding, or get support of any kind. So this is why volunteers are important and we want to help spread the word to our followers the best we can.

As per their Twitter thread, they are currently looking for help with:

  1. Project Management – helping roll out the Renos at Hopeall for the pasture this summer
  2. Pony care: pasture checks on ponies in pastures in the evenings
  3. Contractors we can get quotes from
  4. Pony detective! Well not quite but helping our volunteer registrar track down owners & getting registration forms filled out
  5. Graphic design: we have ideas for Tees/products to sell but need design talent
  6. Help running the pastures
  7. Help running events such as meet and greet with ponies
  8. A school kids education program

If you feel you can help out please reach out to them via their website contact form as well you can reach them on Twitter and Facebook to learn more.
