St. John’s Is The Chicken Capital Of Canada According To DoorDash

When it comes to food, Newfoundlanders don’t mess around. From their generous tipping culture to their love of hearty, meat-filled meals, DoorDash Canada data reveals that these islanders have some of the most intriguing ordering habits in the country.

Before we proceed though I do want to put it out there this is not a paid or sponsored post. I just reached out for some interesting facts and tidbits they could share for a story idea, and they obliged. I myself have never used their service and may be one of the last holdouts on the Avalon Peninsula.

1. Newfoundlanders Are Among the Most Generous Tippers in Canada

When it comes to saying “thank you,” Newfoundlanders go big! Newfoundland and Labrador ranked as one of the top 5 most generous provinces in Canada for tips on DoorDash. Whether it’s their warm hospitality or love for supporting local workers, the kindness of these islanders shines through every order.

My thoughts on this are let’s see what this data looks like next year as budgets for families are getting increasingly tight and I expect to see tipping get lower and lower, but I could be wrong.

2. Torbay: The Generosity Capital of Newfoundland

In a province already known for its generosity, Torbay takes the crown as the most generous city. Located just a short drive from St. John’s, this charming community proves that you don’t need to be big to have a big heart. DoorDash drivers in Torbay are likely leaving deliveries with a smile—and maybe a little extra cash in their pockets.

That’s quite interesting and I’d love to hear from our reader’s what they think makes Torbay like this.

3. St. John’s: The Chicken Capital of Canada

Who knew that St. John’s had such a thing for chicken? According to DoorDash data, St. John’s orders more chicken than any other city in Canada. From fried chicken to wings and everything in between, it’s clear that chicken is the reigning champion of comfort food in the capital city.

I was shocked to see this, although it make sense since we do love our Mary Brown’s here on the rock. For me personally, it’s either Wendy’s or Mary Brown’s whenever I get takeout.

4. Meat Lovers, Assemble!

If you’re a carnivore, St. John’s is the place to be. Not only is it the chicken capital, but it also holds the national title for the most meat-heavy orders across Canada. Burgers, BBQ, and other hearty, protein-packed dishes dominate dinner tables (and delivery bags) in this city. If you’re on a high-protein diet or just love a good burger, St. John’s has you covered.

Guilty as charged here.

An Interesting Inside Look

From tipping culture to meat feasts, Newfoundland and Labrador’s DoorDash habits offer a fascinating glimpse into the island’s food-loving spirit. I hope to get more data from them as the service grows across Newfoundland and Labrador over the next few years. Thanks to the team at DoorDash for answering my call for data, I hope to bug them some more to get even more tidbits next year.
