There are a few new restaurants on the food scene across Newfoundland and Labrador that we wanted to put together and list of these spots to try in 2024. A couple on the list are not quite open, but we wanted to support them as they bring new culinary experiences to this province.
We recommend making a visit two a weekend road trip idea and enjoy a food experience somewhere new, especially since a one of them is a pop up you’ll have to catch when you can. I haven’t tried all of these places yet, but a few I have, so I will rely on your reviews in the comments and on social media to tell us what you liked..or didn’t.

Stella’s Brasserie In St. John’s
Stella’s Brasserie is St. John’s newest culinary darling, but don’t let its fresh face fool you. This stylish eatery is the proud offspring of the beloved Hungry Heart Cafe, a local legend known for its warm hospitality and delicious eats. While Stella’s has traded in the cozy cafe vibe for a sophisticated brasserie atmosphere, it’s still all about good food with a purpose.
Located in the heart of downtown, Stella’s offers a menu packed with small plates, creative cocktails, and a focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. But it’s more than just a restaurant; it’s a social enterprise dedicated to providing training and employment opportunities for people facing barriers. So while you’re indulging in deliciousness, you’re also supporting a great cause.
Stella’s Brasserie is where modern meets mission, proving that you can savor social good while satisfying your cravings.

Sliceberg Pizza In Old Perlican
I’m taking a road trip soon to come eat some pizza here but ever since opening they have been selling out. I love a good pizza, and I’m excited to try their homemade creations that you won’t find at any other spot.
Tucked away in the quaint fishing community of Old Perlican, Sliceberg Pizza is a local treasure that’s as genuine as the town itself. This unassuming pizzeria is where classic meets comfort, serving up hearty slices that are as big on flavour as they are on nostalgia.
With a menu that reads like a love letter to pizza perfection, Sliceberg has won over locals and visitors alike. It’s the kind of place where you can expect warm smiles, friendly banter, and pizza so good, it’ll make you question if you’ve ever truly tasted pizza before.

Bread + Butter In Corner Brook
Recently opened Bread + Butter sandwich shop and deli on West Street in Corner Brook and this is another reason why I need to head west. They’ve been doing pop ups in the recent past, but their opening date in their own spot is nearing opening. Their Instagram has said they had hoped for a mid July 2024 opening but no word yet.
From their photos and reels though they had me reaching for my wallet. Get in my belly!

Black Cat Pizza in St. John’s
Black Cat Pizza NL started life not with nine lives, but with a passion for pizza. Founder Albin Jose Toms, originally from India, discovered his love for the art of pizza while working at a local St. John’s shop during his engineering studies. Soon, his personal experiments were in such high demand that Black Cat Pizza took shape as a pop-up, hopping around various locations.
Due to its growing popularity, Black Cat eventually shed its nomadic ways and found a permanent home on 13 Lemarchant Road. This move allowed owner Toms to expand his menu beyond his signature Detroit-style sourdough pizzas, which are known for their thick, airy crusts.
So, next time you’re craving a unique and delicious pizza experience in St. John’s, head over to Black Cat Pizza and see how this former pop-up has risen to become a beloved local institution.
