Looking for the best sandy beaches in Newfoundland & Labrador to enjoy this summer? Here is our curated list of the best sandy beaches, some easy to get to, others not so much.

Newfoundland and Labrador might be known for its rugged coastline and iceberg spotting, but don’t underestimate its beach scene. Tucked away on the edges of the province are hidden gems boasting soft sand, refreshing ocean dips, and breathtaking views.

Whether you’re building sandcastles with the kids, seeking a romantic sunset stroll, or simply want to relax with a good book and the sound of waves, Newfoundland and Labrador’s sandy beaches have something to offer everyone.

I did my best with Google Maps and their tools to get a detailed map with pinpoints to a lot of these locations and more. However, it failed, or seemingly straight up ignored the west coast of the province.

• Southwest Coast

  • Sandbanks Provincial Park, Burgeo: This park boasts some of the most magnificent sandy beaches in the province. It’s a great spot for swimming, sunbathing, picnicking, and beach-combing.
  • Cape Ray Beach: One of the best in the province with soft sand, located on Route 1 near JT Cheeseman Provincial Park. Great for swimming and beach walks.
  • Codroy Valley Provincial Park: Scenic day park located at the mouth of the Grand Codroy River on Route 407 in Searston. Offers a beautiful sandy beach.
  • Grand Bay West Beach: A beautiful sandy beach located on Route 1 in Port aux Basques. This beach is home to the endangered Piping Plover, so be sure to be respectful of their habitat.
  • Millville Beach: This beach boasts beautiful white sand and is located on Route 407.

• Avalon Peninsula

  • Middle Cove Beach: Located in Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove, this beach is a local favorite with soft sand and calm waters. Great for swimming, sunbathing, and picnics.
  • St. Philips Beach: Located in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s, this beach offers beautiful views and is a great spot for walking, relaxing, or picnicking.
  • Salmon Cove Sands: Situated on the Southern Avalon, Salmon Cove Sands is known for its beautiful red sand. This beach is a great spot for swimming, sunbathing, and beach-combing.

• Central Newfoundland

  • Eastport Beaches: The Eastport Peninsula offers not one, but three white sandy beaches. Perfect for swimming, building sandcastles, or simply relaxing by the ocean.
  • Lumsden: Located along the Kittiwake coast, Lumsden boasts several sandy beaches on a small peninsula jutting out into the Atlantic. Great for swimming, sunbathing, and exploring the coastline.
  • Musgrave Harbour: This fishing community is known for its miles of sandy beach that line the Kittiwake Coast. Great for swimming, beach-combing, and exploring the surrounding area.
  • Sandy Cove: This secluded beach is located at the entrance of Tilting on Fogo Island. A perfect spot for relaxation and enjoying the beauty of Newfoundland.
  • Deadman’s Cove: Picturesque beach located near Newtown. Great for swimming, sunbathing, and exploring the coastline.

• Other Regions

  • Bottle Cove Beach: Located on the Northern Peninsula, Bottle Cove Beach is known for its soft sand and clear waters. Great for swimming, sunbathing, and beach-combing.
  • Shallow Bay Beach: Situated on the coast of Gros Morne National Park, Shallow Bay Beach offers beautiful views and opportunities for wildlife watching.
  • Northern Bay Sands: Located in Bonne Bay, Northern Bay Sands is a great spot for swimming, sunbathing, and picnicking.
