Winter In Newfoundland & Labrador
Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, has a cold but not severe winter climate. The island of Newfoundland has an average summer temperature of 16°C (61°F), while the winter hovers around 0°C (32°F). In Labrador, the winter climate is somewhat harsher, but temperatures can top 25°C (77°F) during the short but pleasant summers.
In Western Newfoundland, temperatures hover around 0°C to -5°C but can reach colder, like -20 or lower. Newfoundland & Labrador is known for being a very snowy province that loves to celebrate winter. Winter activities include zip lining with Marble Zip Tours, snowmobiling in Deer Lake, skiing at Marble Mountain Resort and White Hills Resort, and dog sledding in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
Visitors can also go ice fishing on Gander Lake or snowshoeing in Gros Morne National Park. When visitors have had enough of the outdoors, they can head inside to relax and warm up. When visiting Newfoundland in winter, it is important to pack warm clothing such as a warm winter jacket, winter boots, warm mitts, a warm toque, lots of layers and sunglasses. Visitors should also check the windchill factor as it can make it feel colder than the actual temperature. A long weekend trip to Western Newfoundland is recommended with at least three nights stay.
