The nordic spa coming to St. John’s is no longer going to be located in Blackhead as they were voted against opening there for a number of valid reasons. While that would have been a fantastic area for a nordic spa, there are plenty of other great spots here to build. I personally think somewhere close but secluded like the Ocean Sciences building would be a great spot for something like this.
However I suspect Shea Heights is the new location according to this CBC article and I also think that’s a good choice. Everyone makes fun of Shea Heights from time to time but it’s a great location, has wonderful views and still at the gateway to Cape Spear and downtown St. John’s.
If you manage to get in a fight on the way to the spa don’t worry, hit the ice baths for a bit and heal right back up.
Iceavik is the spa company behind it and I’m excited to see what’s in store. I really enjoyed my experiences at the Scandinave Spa’s in Whistler and Montreal, and can see one fitting in perfectly here. I’ve been harping on and on about winter tourism needing a kick in the arse and this is one of those things.
Build one in Gros Morne as well!
