The Newfoundland Section Of The International Appalachian Trail Hiking Video

The Newfoundland section of the International Appalachian Trail (IAT) is a long-distance hiking trail that extends along the rugged backbone of Newfoundland’s west coast.

It begins at Port aux Basques on the southwest coast and extends north along the Long Range Mountains to Crow Head, just east of L’Anse aux Meadows on the Strait of Belle Isle.

The route is composed of the Trans Canada Trail, logging and secondary roads, and IATNL-developed wilderness mountain trails, offering 1 to 4-day trails and trail routes throughout Western Newfoundland.

Adventurous hikers can explore numerous side trails into remote and scenic areas such as the Lewis Hills and Gros Morne National Park.

The Newfoundland and Labrador extension to the IAT was proposed in 2003 and is still under construction. When completed, it will add an additional 1,200 km to the trail.
