I was browsing Ebay to see if I could find anything unique from Newfoundland’s past, and oh by did I ever. This is an extremely rare bank note from 1883. While it is a 5 pound bill, it is currently going for a lot more than that! The Union Bank of Newfoundland existed from 1854 until 1894, and was notoriously known for being poorly managed. Too much rum perhaps?
This particular bill is a Queen Victoria note which ran from 1865 to 1883 and was printed by the American Bank Note Co in New York. This carefully preserved bank note is currently at an asking price of $20,000 CAD on Ebay.
